Marketing to Walkers

Opportunities to attract walkers to your business

National Walking Month

May is National Walking Month, an annual campaign that promotes the benefits of walking, an opportunity to celebrate how walking and wheeling can boost you and your guests physical and mental health.

The walking section is the most visited area of the  National Park website so do make sure you’re promoting walking opportunities in the North York Moors in your marketing activity.

Check out the North York Moors National Park promoted walks on the Outdoor Active platform too, which now includes a new public transport layer

Over the coming month, the NYMNP social media will feature walks and outdoor activities - look out for the posts on instagram and facebook. It would be great if you could share some of them, adding your own insights and ideas too.

Add more walks or links to walks to your website

Don't miss the opportunity to show how your business is close to attractive walks. It's best to be really specific, picking out a couple of your favourite routes, rather than just saying "close to lots of walks". Naming routes or destinations will help with your search engine optimisation too.

You don't need to do all the hard work of researching routes: the National Park has already done that for you! All you need to do is choose a few routes from the website, mention them and link to them. You could feature a different one each week in your social media? Don't forget to say where your business is, in relation to the routes. Perhaps you can also collaborate with others, helping to showcase walking guides and walking tour operators, accommodation providers, cafes and attractions en route?

Tell visitors about the National Park's guided walks programme

The guided walks programme  has plenty of walks spanning across the National Park, for all levels of fitness, with no charge. A fantastic opportunity for visitors to discover the North York Moors.

Is your business walking-friendly?

If it is, you need to be part of the North York Moors National Park's activity-friendly programme and apply to use the 'walking friendly' logo and be listed on the NYMNP website.
